Clearing the Soul For Long-Lasting Change

Matthew E. Morgan, MA, LPCC-S

Matthew Morgan counselor and therapist, arms folded, tattoo fondly displayed

I'm a short, bearded, geeky guy who is rarely found without his favorite hat and some sort of crazy decor (Lego keychains, Star Wars paraphernalia, and obscure movie references to name a few). I believe that every client - every family - has a story. That story can often be sad and can find us missing some parts.

But when we can share our stories safely, we can finally open up for healing. We realize that we might be broken - but that's not our fault ... and it certainly doesn't mean we're crazy. But once we realize where things are broken, we can start to fix them. Counseling at Covenant isn't just about telling your problems, it's about working collaboratively to come up with solutions to calming anxiety, taming depression, and reconnecting with those who matter most to us.

How I Help:

  • Though I follow a medical model of therapy (diagnosis, treatment plan, and treatmet.,), I alos believe that this is benefiical only as much as it serves you.

  • Within those confines, I believe in using the Hero's Journey approach - we'll look at your call (often times working on finding your life purpose), what your obstacles are, who your allies are - and most importantly - what your strengths are. Then we put all that together and start working on how we can get you back to ... well .. you.

  • I don't believe therapy should be boring or sad all the time. I love to incorporate "Geek Therapy" - using the pop culture that you love to further your narrative. So please feel free to bring up your favorite game, show, or hobby to we can use it.

Biography:

Biographically, I've been married for 26 years. 13 of those, we struggled with infertility; the remainder has been spent trying to handle our miracle baby (who now eats like we have to feed the 5000). We spend our time together crafting and geeking out over things (lately it's been Dungeons and Dragons). We also play music together.

My Education / Experience:

I began my career in ministry, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral Ministries and Biblical Studies from Trinity Bible College in Ellendale, ND. I worked as a youth pastor and teacher. As I was working on a Master's Degree I found counseling and realized that I wanted to be in a position where I could help that one student who needed major help. So I earned my master's degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.
